Art Song Meditation
During covid, one of my only escapes (like many of us) was getting out of the house to walk around my neighborhood. In the early weeks, it was Spring - one of the longest, most beautiful Springs to grace DC in many years. Or perhaps it only felt that way because I had the time to appreciate it. These explorations, that I dubbed “Flower Walks”, reminded me in a season of extreme unrest to seek out and appreciate everyday beauty and enjoy these meditative moments as gifts from the Creator. Enamored by the variety and vibrancy springing up around me, I did my best to capture these peaceful moments in portrait-mode snapshots on my iPhone. Since then, life has sped back up, but I still take time to discover and enjoy nature’s artistry in my daily life.
At this point, my curated collection of blooms, mushrooms, tree trunk patterns, and seas of undulating grass has grown to bursting and rather than keep them hidden away in my Photos app for a rainy day, I have been piecing these moments together and pairing them with snippets of my favorite classical songs to create what I have been calling art song meditation. I hope you enjoy these moments of reflection on beauty and that they bring you peace.
This is an ongoing project showcased on Instagram.
